THE NECESSITY OF VISION

Visioning is taking ideas and convictions and envisioning how you will make them become reality. There is a basic formula that I learned from the author, Andy Stanley, for the process of creating a vision, which he calls “visioneering”:

Visioneering = inspiration + conviction + action + determination + completion

Everybody ends up somewhere in life. A few people end up somewhere on purpose. Those are the ones with vision. Vision is necessary as it gives significance to the otherwise meaningless details of our lives. Vision weaves 4 things into the fabric of our daily lives:

  1. Passion – A true vision evokes emotion. There is no such thing as an emotionless vision. The emotions serve to reinforce our commitment to the vision. The clearer and more compelling the vision, the stronger the emotion.
  2. Motivation – The ability to tend to the details stems out of inner motivation to see the results of one’s vision.
  3. Direction – the most practical advantage of vision is it sets a direction for our lives. It serves as a road map that simplifies decision making because you have a pre-established path to the end destination. Look for each milestone and celebrate your progress and your purpose. Anything that moves us toward our end goal is a green light. All else is proceed with caution. Vision will prioritize your values and make choice decisions easier.
  4. Purpose – Vision translates into purpose. There is something to strive for, and there is value in what I am doing and becoming.
